FAQs

These are just a few general questions we commonly receive. If your question is not listed below, please do not hesitate to contact us for more information!

Where can we find information on NJ season dates and license/permit requirements to hunt with you?

General license information can be found here; https://njfishandwildlife.com/licenses.htm

For non-resident hunters as first time hunters in New Jersey, it is recommended to handle your licensing prior to your arrival, which can be completed here; https://dep.nj.gov/njfw/hunting/non-resident-hunting-license-documentation/

Waterfowl season dates can be found here; https://njfishandwildlife.com/waterfowl_info.htm

Spring turkey season dates can be found here; https://njfishandwildlife.com/turkey_info.htm

What shells do you recommend us bringing for our hunt?

Most of the shots we call will be at close range, decoying birds. Early season, 3”, #2-4s are best for teal and other ducks. Mid-late season when Canadas are also in, 3”, #2-BB is recommended. We also recommend 3”, #2-BB for coastal hunts. 3”, BB is best for snow goose hunts with us.

I have a hunting dog, can I bring it for the hunt?

Yes, we encourage if you have a well-trained retriever to bring it. It is equally enjoyable watching dogs work. We emphasize however for your dog’s safety and the hunters, we do not want dogs that break or begin going after birds downrange while shooting is still going on. Please just give us a heads up if you plan on bringing a dog so we can accommodate.

What’s the best time to book a hunt?

It depends on what species you are interested in hunting. Oct-Nov is best for teal, wood ducks and fair for other puddle ducks. Mid-Nov to mid-Jan is best for big puddle ducks such as mallards, black ducks, pintails, etc. Mid-Dec to end of Jan is best for brant and coastal species such as bufflehead and bluebill. Mid-Jan to mid-March is best for snows peaking around the month of February. As always with waterfowl, much of the day-to-day good and bad revolve around weather conditions leading up to and during your hunt!

What is a half-day trip versus full-day?

A half-day trip will typically go either until you have reached your limit, or approximately 11am. Half-day trips may also be contingent on tide situations/weather factors. A full-day trip will break for lunch and set up for the PM (or we will have lunch afield) and run until you’ve had enough, or legal shooting time has ended. We try our best to gauge the conditions and what the birds are doing on a given day to make this call. We’re there to have fun, not watch time tick by!

Do you have lodging?

We do not personally offer lodging but can recommend nearby cities and hotels we typically suggest people stay at. The closest ones will be 20-45 minutes from hunting locations.

What is the nearest airport to use?

Philadelphia International Airport is approximately an hour from the bulk of locations we hunt.
